The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin is Beatrix Potter's famous tale of a naughty squirrel who loses his tail. Nutkin, his brother Twinkleberry and all his cousins venture to Owl Island to gather nuts and the they are in for a surprise when Old Brown, the menacing owl guardian of the island decides he has had enough of silly Nutkin's cheekiness! Ouch!!
Beatrix Potter loved the countryside and spent much of her childhood drawing and studying animals. The Tale of Peter Rabbit¸ published in 1902, was her first book, expanded from an illustrated letter she had sent to a young friend. Beatrix Potter went on to publish more than 20 tales and collections of rhymes.
